8 sessions / Salt & Light: A Marketplace Discipleship Journey
Discipleship in the marketplace
Transform your business through faith-driven leadership.
01Session 1
The marketplace mission field
Understand that work is worship and your company is your mission field.
"Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ." - Colossians 3:23-24 (ESV)
Work is not a consequence of the Fall to be endured until heaven; God placed Adam in the garden "to work it and keep it" before sin ever entered the story.
Session 1
Write a one-paragraph "Marketplace Commission" naming your specific mission field.
02Session 2
From owner to steward
Learn the principles of Kingdom economics: Absolute Ownership, Covenantal Abundance, and Just Distribution.
"The earth is the LORD's and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein," - Psalm 24:1 (ESV)
Kingdom economics rests on three truths: God owns everything, His economy multiplies rather than hoards, and true wealth is measured by how it lifts the vulnerable.
Session 2
Conduct a personal "Lordship Audit": name one asset, decision, or ambition not yet surrendered.
03Session 3
Confronting the marketplace triad
Address systemic poverty, corruption, and unethical practices.
"A false balance is an abomination to the LORD, but a just weight is his delight." - Proverbs 11:1 (ESV)
The kingdom leader confronts systemic poverty by creating dignified, living-wage work rather than dependency.
Session 3
Identify one ethical "gray zone" in your industry and pre-decide your response.
04Session 4
The mandate to flourish
Use profit for Kingdom purposes, creating jobs, community wealth, and gospel expansion.
"But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the LORD on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare." - Jeremiah 29:7 (ESV)
Profit is not the ultimate goal, but it is the engine that fuels Kingdom impact.
Session 4
Sketch your own "Kingdom success loop."
05Session 5
Salt and light in commerce
Act as a visible witness in your industry, preserving and illuminating with integrity and generosity.
"In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." - Matthew 5:16 (ESV)
Salt preserves and purifies: your presence should arrest the moral decay of corruption, exploitation, and greed in your industry.
Session 5
Choose one concrete act of "salt" and one of "light" to carry out in your company.
06Session 6
Measuring what matters
Focus on the triple bottom line: Spiritual, Social, and Economic Return.
"Masters, treat your bondservants justly and fairly, knowing that you also have a Master in heaven." - Colossians 4:1 (ESV)
A discipled Kingdom business redefines success across three returns: Spiritual Return, Social Return, and Economic Return.
Session 6
Draft one starter metric for each bottom line that you will begin tracking.
07Session 7
Counting the cost
Face real challenges with integrity and community support.
"For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it?" - Luke 14:28 (ESV)
Honest discipleship names its obstacles before sending. Disciples who count the cost are the ones who endure.
Session 7
Name the one cost you most fear paying, and ask the group to support you.
08Session 8
Commissioned to multiply
Become a discipled leader sent to disciple the next leader.
"and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also." - 2 Timothy 2:2 (ESV)
The Great Commission reaches the systems of commerce when marketplace disciples multiply through peer cohorts, incubation, and mentorship.
Session 8
Create a personal Salt & Light Action Plan and select a leader to disciple.
